Do you have too much stuff?

First I'm not a doctor or therapist, so don't count on me for expert advice.  I just want to know what you think about this topic.  How do you know when you have too much?  Is it when you begin to trip over it?  Or are you too embarrassed to bring friends home? Are your bank accounts balances $0 and your credit card balances $1000's?  How does it affect your children and your relationships?

You do know that you are not responsible for keeping the economy going right?  You don't have to have lots of money to fill your home with stuff either.  Do these things make you happy like the commercials promise?  Would you like to reclaim your life?  Just say no more!  Turn the TV off and get busy, set aside a few hours on the week-end. Start small.  Like a bedroom or the family room.  You should have at least one place where you can escape the busy, crazy, chaotic life we all lead.  A place where you can contemplate the day, make plans and give thanks.  Consider donating those things you don't use to your favorite charity. Find something that is meaningful to you and help someone who is in need.

So get started before it totally overwhelms you.  There are some good books and TV shows that can get you started.  Let me know about your journey. Are there any success stories out there?  Has helping others helped to take the focus off of your own problems?  The Bible has some pretty good advice too; in Matthew 6:19, “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal; but store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth and rust consumes and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will also be.”
